Gardeco Objects makes art and design accessible to a broad audience. In collaboration with designer stefan schöning, the international design company is now launching its new collection 'Langkawi'. Inspired by mask culture, the series of anthropomorphic sculptures takes you to the eponymous archipelago off the west coast of Malaysia, where artisans carve the objects single-handedly from a single block of hardwood. As a result, abstract figures come to life as unique eye-catchers in your interior.
Antropomorph design
For the new design collection 'Langkawi', the international design label Gardeco Objects and designer stefan schöning were inspired by the rich mask culture in various countries and cultures around the world, from the past and the present. The Langkawi collection consists of abstract sculptures that carry you in spirit and craftsmanship to the Malaysian island of the same name, where legends, myths and anthropomorphism are part of everyday life.
The abstract design objects purposely lack symmetry to suit schöning's minimalist style. The figures also allow viewers to make their own interpretations and stories. Each piece from the Langkawi collection is hand-carved from a single block of Malaysian hardwood by skilled artisans from that area. Individual standards are also meticulously tailored to each mask. The local craftsmen were a true inspiration for stefan and, together with the island, they shaped this collection.
Collection of 5 masks
The collection consists of five designs in sustainable and local logging, each of which was given a matching name: Eclipse, Elephant, Offspring, Sunrise and Toucan. Toucan was additionally given a bronze limited-edition piece in two sizes.
