Van Damme-Vandeputte Architects presents a summer of Belgian sculpture

This summer, Van Damme-Vandeputte Architects presents two exhibitions in which architecture and sculpture meet. From 20 June to 3 July, the practice’s headquarters in Izegem (Belgium) – housed in the renovated Haessebroucq doctor’s residence – will become a hybrid workspace and exhibition venue featuring previously unseen work by sculptor Florian Tomballe. From 20 July to 16 August, the architectural duo will also inaugurate its second office in the Belgian coastal town Knokke with a duo exhibition by sculptors Sharon Van Overmeiren and Jef Meyer.

Florian Tomballe transforms Izegem office into exhibition space

From 20 June to 3 July, Van Damme-Vandeputte Architects presents an exhibition featuring a selection of sculptures by Belgian sculptor Florian Tomballe. The setting is Huis Haessebroucq in Izegem (Belgium), the neoclassical townhouse that was renovated in 2023 into the practice’s office.

The exhibition creates a dialogue between Tomballe’s classically inspired sculptures and the historic character of the former doctor’s residence. For two weeks, the office will become a hybrid environment where art and architecture converge. Alongside recent wooden sculptures, previously unseen bronze works will also be presented.

“For us, this exhibition forms an essential part of how we activate our spaces: not merely as workplaces, but as cultural settings where encounter, reflection and aesthetics come together.” – Benoît Vandeputte

New Knokke office opens with exhibition by Sharon Van Overmeiren and Jef Meyer

With the opening of a second office in Knokke, Van Damme-Vandeputte Architects further expands its presence on the Belgian coast. To mark the occasion, the practice presents a duo exhibition with a mix of new and recent works by Belgian sculptors Sharon Van Overmeiren and Jef Meyer from 20 July to 16 August. In the future, the new location will also serve as a setting for small-scale exhibitions, previews and cultural gatherings.

The office is housed in an existing residential property in Oud-Knokke, a place where architecture, gastronomy and quality living come together naturally. Far removed from the conventional office environment, the space has been conceived as a domestic setting where architecture, interior design, art and social exchange take centre stage. The interior is defined by calmness, materiality and a residential atmosphere.

The exhibition is entirely curated by Sharon Van Overmeiren and conceived as a sober, almost sacred, yet remarkably powerful installation, in which the figurative work by Van Overmeiren is combined with the abstract, architectural work by Jef Meyer. Although both artists work from different practices, a strong dialogue emerges between each other and the place. Jef Meyer primarily uses concrete and often approaches his practice from an architectural perspective. Sharon Van Overmeiren, on the other hand, develops a sculptural visual language in which ceramics are used to merge references from diverse eras, cultures and visual traditions.

“We always approach spaces in a sculptural way. Our affinity with craftsmanship and applied arts runs as a common thread throughout our work.” – Benoît Vandeputte
